Kimbolton in March
Having missed out on the last round as the team manager/mechanic/dad was not well it was good to be back on track. My mate Rob Sims another ex Tyro Karter was also racing in jTKM, his first outing at Kimbolton. Saturday practice we learned little as the weather kept changing and the tyres with it. It did mean I had more time getting used to proper wet tyres, something we didn't use in Tyro. On Sunday I qualified 11th out of 30 karts for the first heat. A fairly quiet heat one saw me finish 12th. The second heat I started 12th and was running in that position having a few scraps here and there before on the last corner the lad behind made a mistake in passing me and spun me out. I managed to quickly rejoin and finished 20th. The final saw me starting 16th, for the first few laps I had a pretty good scrap with a group of 4 or 5 karts but got past and settled down to closing the gap to the man in front. I caught him with 3 laps to go and got past at the entry to the chicane, I thought i'd pulled a gap on him but I think as my tyres started to fade his must have improved and he passed me on the following lap to beat me by 0.07 secs. Well done to James Barty, it was a good drive. In the end I finished 12th. Quite happy with that.
This was the first weekend we ran with our sponsors stickers on the kart, thanks again to Michael Anthony Estate Agents for their support.
