As the year ends after my first season in TKM I thought I'd sum it up. Starting the season on novice plates in the first meeting of the year at Kimbolton I was happy to finish 7th and be awarded the Marshal's novice driver of the day award. Come April I had lost the novice plates so no more starting from the back, I managed 4th in the Kimbolton final in the wet. May at Kim I got my first podium with a third place and set the fastest lap, I was 4th overall in the East Anglian Cup that double header weekend.
June at Rissington saw my first heat win, in the heat!
July at Rissy saw my first big crash, enough to see me out of the rest of the day, a trip to A&E (soft tissue damage to knee) and a trip to the chassis builder for the kart to be straightened out. Was back on track the following weekend for a 7th in the final at Kim and the weekend after that saw our only trip of the year to Shenington for the Superprix. Was really pleased to come away 8th given pretty much everyone quick in a TKM kart was there that weekend, and I was still limping, thankfully it was my throttle leg so I didn't need to put too much pressure on it when driving.
The TKM festival in August was another great weekend with the very best racing, I made the elite final and finished 9th.
Next highlight was September at Kimbolton and saw my first win in a final, a really great result for us but it was even better in October when we won two heats, was third in the other and won the final from Zak Oates on the E plate. It was wet and we got it all pretty much spot on all weekend.
The year end was bit quieter and I finished the year with only the second mechanical non finish of the season, a shame as it was my last junior race.
Dad and I are really pleased, the two of us put up a good fight in this first year on a chassis no-one else was running getting 2nd in the Kimbolton championship and 4th at Rissy (which would probably have been 2nd too had the last round not been cancelled). I was awarded Rissy's Up and coming junior driver trophy. I'm now up and going as I move on to the senior class for 2019, we'll see what that brings along with our entry in the Motorsport UK National Championship.
